Frequently Asked Questions
USB Download Issues
1. I have installed PM Designer and connected the HMI to the PC via USB download cable, but PM Designer does not recognize the connection. I cannot download. What is the problem?
Answer: The USB driver is not installed or not installed properly. Follow these simple steps to install the driver -
A. Open Device Manger in your Windows version (available in Control Panel).
B. Scoll down to Other devices. You should see an entry for Neo HMI and it will have a yellow triangle with a ! in the middle.
C. Opposite mouse click (Right for many people) and choose Install Driver.
D. Point to the folder on your hard drive where the PM Designer is installed (default location is - C:\Program Files (x86)\PM Designer - next you may have to choose a version number if you have more than one version installed.
E. In the version folder, drill down to the USB folder and then inside that folder look for either 32 or 64 bit, depending on your OS. Then let the driver install from there and it should install and the Neo HMI will move from Other Device to Universal Serial Bus Controllers section of the Device Manager.
F. That's it, you are now ready to download. Keep in mind there are at least four other ways to download a project into an OPT HMI (serial port, Ethernet port, USB drive and Micro SD card), so no matter where you are, you can easily change a project.

Flash Format Warning - 1. Why do I get a Warning Flash error after I download a project to an HMI panel I just bought?
Answser: The HMI you just bought has an older firmware version and when you downloaded the first time the firmware was updated. In this case, the flash C: drive in the HMI has been enhanced and is now faster and larger than in previous versions. The format is necessary to bring the flash area of memory up to code so it can be used properly.
Solution(s):
There are several ways to format the C: drive:
From the Setup Screen, choose the Format Disk C button (if there is a Red circle and hash mark on the button, it is password protected, the default designer password is 000000000 after entering this password it is necessary to push the Format Disk C button again. ), this will format the C Disk to the new format and the Warning will not appear again.
Or, you can place a Function button on a screen in a project using the function "Format Built-in Flash Disk". Then after you download and run the project, use this button to perform the format. Again, this only needs to be accomplished one time. So the button can be removed from the project after the formatting is completed.
2. Why do I get a Warning Flash error after I download a project to an HMI panel? I have used the software before and this never happened until I recenlty updated the software to the latest version.
Answer: If you were previously using PM Designer v1.2.94 or earlier, then this Warning will occur when you update to a new version of the software. The reason is the firmware has been upgraded to allow for faster and larger flash usage, so the flash area must be re-formatted to fit this new image and make use of the faster and larger flash capabilities.
